United We Stand – Divided We Fall

“If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Mark 3:25

Webster’s New World Dictionary defines unity as “a harmonious arrangement of parts in an artistic work.” The bible speaks about unity as well. In Luke 9:50, Jesus says, “whoever is not against you is for you.”

Many states have pro-life/pregnancy center coalitions to encourage unity in several ways – by increasing the personal support of each leader, periodic meetings to network and share ideas, and encouraging joint endeavors on state legislation that concerns life issues. As Mark 3:25 states, unity is critical to the future of the pro-life movement – “if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”

Its particularly disheartening to hear tales of competition between centers for funding and volunteers. Satan can also work from the inside of a ministry by turning the hearts of the staff, board members and even volunteers against each other. The results can be a “caved in” center that eventually closes its doors.

If this scenario describes your ministry, or one close to you, I urge you to pray about your role in resolving the conflict. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to forgive someone who doesn’t want to be forgiven. God knows our hearts and will hold each one of us accountable (Matthew 18:35).

Whether or not our missions are similar or different, we must strive to work together and love one another by listening to God’s voice in our hearts. With God at our helm, the results will certainly be harmonious in His artistic work for life!
